- Background
- BHMT (Betaine--homocysteine S-methyltransferase 1) is involved in the regulation of homocysteine metabolism. It is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of betaine and homocysteine to dimethylglycine and methionine, respectively. It is expressed exclusively in liver and kidney and displays differential expression in a model of liver cirrhosis.Synonyms: Betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase 1
