Background: Acylglycerol Kinase is a lipid kinase whose function is to phosphorylate monoacylglycerol to form lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and diacylglycerol to form phosphatidic acid (PA). It does not phosphorylate sphingosine. Overexpression increases the formation and secretion of LPA, resulting in transactivation of EGFR and of the downstream MAPK signaling pathway, thus leading to increased cell growth. It is overexpressed in prostate cancer, where it may play a role in initiation and progression. Two different isoform are known.Synonyms: Acylglycerol kinase, Multiple substrate lipid kinase
