Laminins are a family of extracellular matrix glycoproteins that are a major component ofbasement membranes. They are involved and/or implicated in a vast number of importantbiological processes that include metastasis, cell adhesion, differentiation, migration,signaling, and neurite outgrowth. Given their participation in diverse physiologicalprocesses, it is not surprising that defects in their genes or how these important proteinsassemble, can lead to numerous, complex and serious diseases.
