Background NALP11 is a 1033 amino acid containing cytoplasmic protein belonging to the NLRP family with a DAPIN domain, six LRR (leucine-rich) repeats and a NACHT domain. Reports suggest that it is a short NALP involved in inflammation potential. NALPs are implicated in the activation of proinflammatory caspases (e.g., CASP1) via their involvement in multiprotein complexes called inflammasomes. The DAPIN domain is necessary and sufficient for suppression of NF-kappa B activation induced by TNF and for inducing IL-1B secretion in collaboration with Caspase-1. It is involved in interaction with PYCARD.
