Specificity DS-PB-02489 recognizes human Adiponectin , a 26.4kDa protein involved in the control of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Adiponectin/APM1 is a hormone secreted by adipocytes that regulates energy homeostasis and glucose and lipid metabolism. APM1 gene is exclusively expressed in adipose tissue. The protein, also known as gelatin-binding protein, has high similarity with collagens X and VIII and complement factor C1q. Studies suggest that APM1 protein may be a collagen-like secretory protein. Defects in adiponectin are the cause of adiponectin deficiency. The result is a very low concentration of plasma adiponectin which is associated with obesity insulin resistance, and diabetes type 2.
