Additional Information

Alternative name c-Kit/CD117
Gene ID 3815
UniProt P10721
Description Other names: KIT, Mast/stem cell growth factor receptor, Proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase Kit
Characteristics Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody
Specificity A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues in the C-terminus (cytoplasmic domain) of human c-Kit was used as an immunogen. The antibody does not cross-react with other CSF-1/PDGF receptor family member.
Molecular Weight 145 kDA
Comments

Background: Member of the Tyrosine Kinase Receptor (TKRs) and highly homologous to receptor PDF and CSF-1 (1-2), c-Kit is a cellular homologue of the oncogene v-Kit of the Hardy Zuckerman 4-feline sarcoma virus (3). Activation of c-Kit tyrosine kinase by SCF (Stem Cell factor) leads to autophosphorylation and association of c-Kit with substrate PI3K (4). Missense substitution within the cellular tyrosine kinase may cause Piebaldism an autosomal dominant disorder of the skin (5).
