Comments

Background: DAPK3 (Death-associated protein kinase) is a Ca2+ calmodulin serine/threonine kinase which acts as a positive regulator of apoptosis through its catalytic activities. DAPK3 is a mediator of apoptosis and is induced by gamma interferon (1). Results suggest that DAPK3, in collaboration with Daxx and Par-4, mediates a novel nuclear pathway for apoptosis (2). It has been shown that the nuclear serine/threonine-specific kinase phosphorylates core histones H3 and H4, and myosine light chain in vitro. DAPK3 interacts with transcription and splicing factors as well as with pro-apoptotic protein Par-4 suggesting that it participates in multiple cellular processes (3).
