Comments

Background: Hepatic leukemia factor (HLF) is a member of the proline and acidic-rich (PAR) protein family, a subset of the bZIP transcription factors (2). It is a transcription factor related to the CES-2 protein, which controls apoptosis of the NSM serotoninergic neurons (1). HLF has been linked to malignancies of the lymphoid system, but is not normally expressed in these cells. HLF transcripts are detected in the liver, kidney, lung and adult nervous system. It plays a role in the function of differentiated neurons in the adult nervous system (1), and it forms homodimers or heterodimers with other PAR family members and binds sequence-specific promoter elements to activate transcription (2).
