Specificity A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues on the C-terminus of human Nicastrin was used as an immunogen.
Alternative Name Nicastrin
Background Nicastrin, a transmembrane glycoprotein, is an essential component of the gamma-secretase complex that is required for the intramembrane proteolysis of an increasing number of membrane proteins, including the amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP) and Notch (1). It probably represents a stabilizing cofactor required for the assembly of the gamma-secretase complex (2). Nicastrin regulates gamma-secretase cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein by forming complexes with presenilins, in which most mutations causing familial early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD) have been found (3).
Synonyms: NCSTN, KIAA0253, Nicastrin
Molecular Weight 120/140 (2 isoforms) kDA
Gene ID 23385
UniProt Q92542
Research Area Cell Signaling, Protein Modifications, Cell Structure
Application Notes The suggested dilution is: WB: = 1:1000
