    Background
Copper transport protein ATOX1, also known as HAH1, a metal transport protein that belongs to the ATX1 family. ATOX1 is involved in cellular antioxidant defense and can bind and deliver cytosolic copper to the copper ATPase proteins. This protein also functions as an antioxidant against superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, and therefore, may play a significant role in cancer carcinogenesis. Because of its cytogenetic location, this gene represents a candidate gene for 5q-syndrome. Recombinant human ATOX1, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: Antioxidant protein 1, ATX1, HAH1, Copper transport protein ATOX1 ATX1, Copper transport protein, Metal transport protein. NCBI no.: NP_004036
