    Background
High mobility group protein HMG-I/HMG-Y, also known as HMGA1, is a member of the non-histone chromosomal high mobility group protein (HMG) family. HMGA1 consists of a highly conserved AT-hook DNA-binding domain that mediates binding to AT-rich sequences in the minor groove of chromosomal DNA. It functions as architectural chromatin-binding transcription factor altering the conformation of DNA by modulating nuclear protein-DNA complexes. It is involved in many cellular processes including growth regulation, viral induction of beta-IFN gene and regulation of inducible gene transcription. Recombinant human HMGA1 protein, fused to His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: High mobility group protein HMG-I/HMG-Y, HMG-R, HMGA1A, HMGIY. NCBI no.: NP_665906
