    Background
Tlr9 (Toll-like receptor 9) participates in the innate immune response to microbial agents. Tlr9 (Toll-like receptor 9) detects the unmethylated cytidine-phosphate-guanosine (CpG) motifs present in bacterial DNA. Acts via MYD88 and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. Tlr9 (Toll-like receptor 9) plays a role in defense against sytemic mouse cytomegalovirus infection. Tlr9 (Toll-like receptor 9) binds MYD88 via their respective TIR domains and interacts with CNPY3. Tlr9 (Toll-like receptor 9) belongs to the Toll-like receptor family and contains 26 LRR (leucine-rich) repeats and 1 TIR domain.
