| Description | Neurogenins are a family of atonal-related bHLH (basic helix-loop-helix) proteins that have been implicated in vertebrate neurogenesis. Members of this family include Neurogenin 1, 2, and 3. In a search for proteins that control early neuronal development, Neurogenin 1 was identified as a novel, Neuro-D-related bHLH protein that is expressed prior to Neuro-D in mouse and Xenopus. Identification of Neurogenins 2 and 3 defined the Neurogenin family. Analysis indicates that neurogenin gene expression defines progenitor populations in the developing nervous system and that neurogenin proteins and Neuro-D function in a cascade. Neurogenin proteins are expressed prior to Neuro-D and subsequent to another bHLH protein, MASH7. Neurogenin 3 is a 244 amino acid, 23 kDa protein that is expressed in fetal, neonatal, and neural tissues, as well as in several neuronal cell lines. Temporal and spatial expression of the neurogenin proteins is critical to proper neural determination and differentiation. This antibody is routinely tested by western blot analysis. |
| Characteristics |
1. Since applications vary, each investigator should titrate the reagent to obtain optimal results. 2. Please refer to us for technical protocols. 3. Source of all serum proteins is from USDA inspected abattoirs located in the United States. 4. Caution: Sodium azide yields highly toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in plumbing. |
