Description	PARP is a 116 kDa nuclear protein which is strongly activated by DNA strand breaks. PARP plays a role in DNA repair as well as in other cellular processes, including DNA replication, cell proliferation and differentiation. During apoptosis, ICE family members, such as caspase 3 and 7, cleave PARP to yield an 85 kDa and a 25 kDa fragment. PARP cleavage is considered to be one of the classical characteristics of apoptosis.

Application	Western Blotting (WB)
Application Notes	WB: Use at an assay dependent dilution. This antibody detects a 113 kDa band, corresponding to the apparent molecular mass of intact PARP on SDS-PAGE blots, in human and mouse cell lysates. This antibody has been shown to detect the 85 kDa apoptotic fragment in etoposide treated HL-60 cell lysates. Additional, as yet unidentified, bands of 200 kDa and 26 kDa are observed in both apoptotic and necrotic cell lysates. Not tested in other applications. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.
