Description S-100 is a homo- or heterodimer filament protein consisting of two alpha chains or an alpha chain combined with a beta chain. In normal tissues it is mainly found in brain, especially in Glia and ependymal tissue. In peripheral tissue S-100 is located in Schwann cells, melanocytes and in Langerhans cells of the skin. In lymph knots interdigitating reticulum cells are labelled.
