Antigen
Alternative Name Bak (BAK1 Antibody Abstract)
Background Bax Is An Appromimately 22 Kda Pro-Apoptotic Protein Belonging To The Bcl-2 Family Of Proteins, Which Are Characterized By The Presence Of At Least One Bcl-2 Homology (BH) Domains. Bax Normally Resides In The Cytoplasm, But Following An Apoptotic Stimuli, Bax Undergoes A Conformational Change And Translocates To Mitochondrial Membranes Where It Inserts And Mediates The Release Of Cytochrome C. This Activates Caspase-3 And Perpetuates The Apoptotic Cascade
Gene ID 578
Research Area Apoptosis/Necrosis
Pathways Apoptosis

Precaution of Use WARNING: Reagents contain sodium azide. Sodium azide is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copious amounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodium azide yields toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide-containing compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead or copper plumbing.
