Antigen L-Selectin
Antibody Type Polyclonal
Isotype IgG »Matching secondary antibodies
Description Selectins are a family of carbohydrate-binding proteins involved in mediating cellular interactions with leukocytes. Selectins interact with specific carbohydrates expressed by activated endothelial cells, monocytes, and neutrophils. L-Selectin (also called LECAM-1) is required for the binding of lymphocytes to the high endothelial venules of peripheral lymph nodes (and therefore serves as a lymphocyte homing receptor) and for the invasion of neutrophils into sites of inflammation. Whereas E-selectin and P-selectin are expressed by endothelial cells, L-selectin is found only on leukocytes. Soluble L-selectin is shed by activated neutrophils and acts to inhibit leukocyte attachment to endothelium.
Host Rabbit
Specificity L-selectin is heavily glycosylated. It has a calculated M.W. of 37 kDa, however, the protein runs at 75-110 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The antibody recognizes L-selectin in human, mouse, and rat cell lysates.
