Description	FITC Anti-Listeria Internalin A (InlA) monoclonal antibody detects the surface protein, Internalin A, on Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria ivanovii. This protein (800 aa) mediates the attachement of Listeria to, and invasion of, hepatocytes, epithelial and endothelial cells. Internalin A can also mediate phago- cytosis of L. monocytogenes by mouse macrophage cell lines by the binding of bacterial InlA to the macrophage cell surface. It is thought that the receptor for Internalin A is E-cadherin. It should be noted that in contrast to cells expressing human E-cadherin, cells expressing mouse E-cadherin do not allow InlA-dependant entry of Listeria. Listeriosis is the wide spread, food borne infection caused by L. monocytogenes.
