| Description | The ion channels activated by glutamate are divided into two classes. Those that aresensitive to N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) are designated NMDA receptors (NMDAR)while those activated by kainate and a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxalone propionicacid (AMPA) are known as kainate/AMPA receptors (K/AMPAR).NMDA receptors are among the most studied receptors in neuroscience because theyare involved in neuronal cell development and plasticity, a cellular correlate for learning.NMDA receptors are also implicated in several disorders of the central nervous systemincluding epilepsy and ischemic neuronal cell death. NMDA receptors also appear to bea target for ethanol at physiological concentrations and therefore may play a significantrole in alcoholism. |

| Application Notes | NB 300-118 can be used in Western blot where a band is seen at ~ 120 kDarepresenting NMDA NR1.Suggested working dilutions: *Western Blot 1:1000**Immunoprecipitation 3ug/200ug lysate*The investigator should determine the optimal dilution for a specific application.**For immunoblot, use in TBST (20 mM Tris/HCl (pH 7.6), 137 mM NaCl, 1% Tween-20)containing 5% non-fat milk and 0.05% Sodium azide. This solution may be used at least5 times without loss in signal strength. Positive Control:Rat hippocampal homogenate. |
