Antigen
Alternative Name Leptin (LEP Antibody Abstract)
Background Leptin is primarily synthesized from adipocytes and plays a major role in energy homeostasis and obesity. Leptin resistance has been proposed as a pathophysiological mechanism of obesity. In obese individuals, expression of the short form of the leptin receptor, Ob-Ra, is downregulated, and the individual may be unresponsive to leptin signals. Leptin has also been implicated in the regulation of reproduction, glucose homeostasis, bone formation, hematopoiesis, and wound healing.
Research Area Cardiovascular, Atherosclerosis, Hormones
Pathways JAK-STAT Signaling, AMPK Signaling, Hormone Transport, Peptide Hormone Metabolism, Hormone Activity, Negative Regulation of Hormone Secretion, Regulation of Carbohydrate Metabolic Process, Feeding Behaviour, Monocarboxylic Acid Catabolic Process
