Bax: antibody against pro-apoptotic marker

Area: Apoptosis
Bax can form homodimers, and also heterodimerizes with Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL proteins. This is possible because Bax is a member of the Bcl-2 family of apoptosis-associated proteins. Apoptosis can be induced by a variety of internal and external stimuli including growth factor deprivation, cytokine treatment, antigen-receptor engagement, cell-cell interactions, irradiation and glucocorticoid treatment.
Bax exerts a pro-apoptotic effect on cells by targeting mitochondrial membranes, inducing mitochondrial damage and subsequent cell death. Bax’s mode of action is to puncture the outer mitochondrial membrane.

This monoclonal (5B7) antibody is specific for mouse Bax and suitable for Western Blotting.
