Versatile tools for research on histocompatibility antigen G (HLA-G)

The human gene HLA-G (Human Leukocyte Antigen G), or, HLA-G histocompatibility antigen, class I, G, is a heterodimer consisting of a heavy chain and a light chain. HLA-G is similar to MHC Class I molecules which are one of two primary classes of major histocompatibility complex proteins.
Also MHC Class I molecules consist of two polypeptide chains, the alpha- and beta2-microglobulin (b2m) polypeptides. Histocompatibility proteins play a role in immunological funtions. MHC help recognize and trigger destrucion of infected cells and HLA-G are thought to play a role in immune tolerance during pregnancy.
