Exciting research topic: anti-CYP1A1 (C-term) antibody

CYP1A1 is a member of the Cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The Cytochrome P450 proteins have become a 'hot' research topic because of their role in metabolism. It is known that CYP1A1 is involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. Most importantly, the CYP1A1 gene has been associated with lung cancer risk.
The Cytochrome P450 proteins is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and its expression is induced by certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), some of which are found in cigarette smoke. The endogenous substrate of CYP1A1 is unknown, however, it is known that it metabolizes some PAHs to carcinogenic intermediates and has been associated with lung cancer risk.
