Avian-flu H5N1: Recent study shows enhanced pathogenicity in reassortant H5 viruses

Area: Virology
A recent study published in PNAS provides evidence for the possibility of an increased pathogenicity after avian H5N1 and H3N2 influenza virus cocirculate. The resulting reassortants of the two stains of viruses cocirculating in mice were analyzed genetically and many showed features of both viruses, some of which had an increased pathogenicity.
The study suggest, that surveillance of the two strains in human is therefore of importance in order to avoid an epidemic of a ressortant viruses comprised of H5N1 and H3N2. Antibodies-online.com offers this mouse-clone IA-H5N1 antibody that was obtained using purified avian influenza virus type A H5N1. This protein-G purified antibody can be used for Western Blotting (WB) and ELISA applications.
