A new monoclonal (clone 11A5) antibody has been added to antibodies-online.com for the detection of hydroxylated alpha-fibrinogen in humans at the proline 565 residue. The antibody can be used for Western Blotting and ELISA and has been used in published research. Alpha-fibrinogen is the most abundant component of blood clots.

Fibrinogen also is one of the major component of plasma, and is a hexamer composed of pairs of three polypeptides (alpha-, beta- and gamma-chain). Prolyl hydroxylation is known to be essential for folding, secretion, and stability of collagen triple helix. Moreover, it is revealed that degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1alpha (HIF1alpha) is regulated by prolyl hydroxylation. Dysfunction of alpha-fibrinogen leads to dysfibrinogenemia, hypofibrinogenemia, afibrinogenemia, and renal amyloidosis.
