Dendritic Cell-Induced Memory T Cell Activation in Nonlymphoid Tissues

A recent study by the University of Melbourne (Australia) revealed that memory CD8+ T-cell responses are potentially initiated within peripheral tissues through the combined interaction of memory cells, CD4+ T-cells and recruited dendritic cells.
The scientists describe, how they reactivate herpes simplex viruses to observe the stimulation of tissue-resident T-cells during secondary challenge. The peripheral, nonlymphoid tissues were previously thought to be only sites of T-cell function, without re-induction of immune response via antigen-presenting cells.
