Antigen
Alternative Name Insulin (INS Antibody Abstract)
Background Insulin, secreted from the pancreas, is a hormone which triggers a decrease in blood glucose concentration. Insulin has a structure of a B chain and an A chain linked by two disulfide bonds. Insulin increases cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids, and accelerates glycolysis, the pentose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver. Defects in insulin are the cause of multiple forms of diabetes.
UniProt P01308
Research Area Neurology, Diabetes, Hormones
Pathways NF-kappaB Signaling, RTK Signaling, Positive Regulation of Peptide Hormone Secretion, Peptide Hormone Metabolism, Hormone Activity, Carbohydrate Homeostasis, ER-Nucleus Signaling, Regulation of Carbohydrate Metabolic Process, Feeding Behaviour
