Background MTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) is a Ser/Thr kinase acting as an ATP sensor and is reported to autophosphorylate Ser2481 in the presence of sufficient nutrients. Activated mTOR phosphorylates ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) and the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1 (4EBP1) in response to PI3K/Akt signaling, in turn, promoting cell growth, survival, and proliferation.
