    Characteristics
Recombinant mouse IL-5 is supplied as a frozen liquid comprised of 0.22µm sterile-filtered Dulbecco's PBS (pH 7.2), containing 1 mg/ml biotechnology grade, low endotoxin bovine serum albumin, glycerol and with no preservatives. The recombinant mouse IL-5 was purified by immunoaffinity chromatography and was found to be > 95% pure by SDS-PAGE analysis, and an absorbance assay based on the Beers-Lambert law.

  • Application Notes
ELISA Standard: BD Biosciences mouse IL-5 is useful as a quantitative standard for measuring mouse IL-5 protein levels in an IL-5 specific sandwich ELISA with the purified TRFK5 antibody (Cat. No. 554393) as a capture antibody and the biotinylated TRFK4 antibody (Cat. No. 554397) as the detection antibody. To obtain linear standard curves, doubling dilutions of this mouse IL-5 standard from 1000-7.5 pg/ml should be included in each ELISA plate.
Note: This ELISA pair is recommended primarily for measuring cytokine from experimental cell culture systems. These ELISA reagents are not recommended for assay of serum or plasma samples. For measuring mouse IL-5 in serum or plasma, the mouse IL-5 OptEIA™ ELISA Set, Cat. No. 555236 is recommended.
Ligand Blocking Control for Immunofluorescent Staining of Cytokines: The recombinant mouse IL-5 can be used as a blocking control to demonstrate specificity of IL-5 staining by the PE-, or APC- conjugated TRFK5 antibodies (Cat. No. 554395, No. 554396). The intracellular cytokine staining technique and use of blocking controls are described in detail by C. Prussin and D. Metcelfe.

    Handling Advice
Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a lymphokine responsible for the activities attributed to eosinophil differentiating factor (EDF), B cell growth factor II (BCGFII), and T cell-replacing factor (TRF). IL-5 induces eosinophil differentiation and promotes eosinophil survival and activation. Mouse IL-5 presents as a 35-37 kD homodimer (in non-reduced gel). IL-5 promotes the growth and differentiation of hematopoietic cells, primarily of the eosinophil lineage. IL-5 stimulates the generation of cytotoxic T cells and supports the growth and differentiation of pre-activated B cells.

    Storage Comment
Store product at -80°C prior to use or for long term storage of stock solutions. Rapidly thaw and quick-spin product prior to use. Avoid multiple freeze-thaws of product. This preparation contains no preservatives, thus it should be handled under aseptic conditions.
