Background Apyrase is an enzyme able to catalyze the sequential hydrolysis of ATP to ADP and ADP to AMP, while releasing inorganic phosphate molecules (Pi). It exists in more than one molecular form and at least two isoenzymes have been identified, which differ in the relative rates of hydrolysis of ATP and ADP.
