Characteristics
The ED 50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of murine M- NSF-60 cells is <1.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of >1 x 10 6 units/mg.

Description
Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor (M-CSF) is produced by various cell types, including fibroblasts, microphages, and endothelial cells. M-CSF is involved in both the development and function of monocytes/microphages. The recombinant M-CSF is a disulfide-linked homodimer composed of two 18.2 kDa subunits of 156 amino acid residues.

Purity
>98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses Endotoxin level is <0.1 ng per μ g of M-CSF.
Buffer
Sterile filtered and then lyophilized from 5 mM Tris, pH 8.0 + 100 mM NaCl.
Storage
The lyophilized M-CSF is best-stored desiccated below 0 °C. Reconstituted M-CSF should be stored in working aliquots at -20 °C. Reconstitution: Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other buffers and stored at 4 °C for 1 week or –20 °C for future use.
