    Background
GALE, also known as UDP-glucose 4-epimeraes, is a protein that functions as the third enzyme in the Leloir pathway of galactose metabolism. It is a homodimeric epimerase found in bacterial, plant, and mammalian cells. This enzyme promotes the reverse chemical reaction, the conversion of UDP-glucose to UDP-galactose. UDP-galactose is used to build galactose-containing proteins and fats, which play critical roles in chemical signaling, building cellular structures, transporting molecules, and producing energy. Recombinant human GALE protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: SDR1E1.UDP-glucose 4-epimeraes, UDP-galactose 4-epimerase, Galactowaldenase, FLJ95174, FLJ97302. NCBI no.: NP_000394
