  1. expressing human ATP12A in cystic fibrosis (show S100A8 Proteins) mouse airways acidified airway surface liquid, impaired defenses, and increased airway bacteria.

  2. Genetic association studies show that carriers of ATP12A rs10507337 C allele or CCTTC haplotype had better pattern of myocardial relaxation as compared to non-carriers.

  3. The presence of nongastric H-K-ATPase (show ATP4b Proteins) in rodent prostate apical membranes may indicate its involvement in potassium concentration regulation in secretions of these glands.

  4. Stimulation of protein kinase C pathway mediates endocytosis of human nongastric H+-K+-ATPase (show ATP4b Proteins), ATP1AL1.

  5. non-gastric H(+)/K(+)ATPase (show ATP4b Proteins) is (show ATP11A Proteins) present in the microvillous plasma membrane of the transporting epithelia of the human placenta

  6. Inhibition of the ATP1AL1 isoenzyme of sodium potassium exchanging ATPase by 8-coumestrol is reported.

  7. Use of fold recognition methods enables a prediction that the C-terminal domain of the beta subunits of Na,K-ATPase (show ATP1A1 Proteins) and H,K-ATPase (show ATP1A1 Proteins) has an immunoglobulin-like fold, which resembles cell adhesion molecules.

  1. After 4 days of K+ restriction HKA2 KO mice exhibit hypokalemia and hypotension.

  2. HKA2-null mice did not accumulate K(+) in their extracellular compartment.

  3. HKA2-null mice fed a normal diet have 2-fold higher K(+) renal excretion during rest. Under K(+) restriction, their urinary K(+) loss is 40% higher during the activity period.

  4. These results show that nongastric H-K-ATPase (show ATP4b Proteins) is (show ATP11A Proteins) required for acidification of luminal prostate fluids, thereby providing a strong in vivo correlate of previous functional expression studies demonstrating that it operates as a proton pump.

  5. Sp1 (show SP1 Proteins) plays an important and positive role in controlling basal HKalpha2 gene expression in murine inner medullary collecting duct cells in vivo and in vitro.

ATP12A Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases. This gene encodes a catalytic subunit of the ouabain-sensitive H+/K+ -ATPase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of H(+) and K(+) ions across the plasma membrane. It is also responsible for potassium absorption in various tissues. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
