Neutralization Activity: This antibody has been reported to be useful for the neutralization of mouse CSF-1. Neutralization activity may be measured with a proliferation assay using 5 ng/mL mouse CSF-1 to stimulate NFS-60 cells at 1.5x10^6 cells/mL as indicator cells (i.e. preincubation of the antibody with mouse CSF-1 for 60 minutes).

The 5A1 antibody reacts with the macrophage-specific colony stimulating factor (known as CSF-1 or M-CSF) protein. CSF-1 is a hematopoietic growth factor that regulates the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of mononuclear phagocytes. CSF-1 is found to be produced by a vast number of cells including fibroblasts, stromal cells, osteoblasts,activated T cells, macrophages, and B cells.
