Antigen
Alternative Name FGF Basic/FGF2 (FGF2 Antibody Abstract)
Background FGF basic (FGF2) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF familymembers bind heparin and possess broad mitogenic and angiogenic activities. FGF2 isinvolved in diverse biological processes, such as limb and nervous systemdevelopment, wound healing, and tumor growth. FGF2 mRNA contains multiplepolyadenylation sites, and is alternatively translated from AUG and non-AUG (CUG)initiation codons resulting in five different isoforms with distinct properties. TheCUG-initiated isoforms are localized in the nucleus and are responsible for the intracrineeffect, whereas, the AUG-initiated form is mostly cytosolic and is responsible for theparacrine and autocrine effects of this FGF. Alternate Names: anti-BFGF antibody, anti-FGFB antibody, anti-HBGH-2 antibody.
Gene Symbol: FGF2
Gene ID 2247, 14173
Pathways RTK Signaling, Fc-epsilon Receptor Signaling Pathway, EGFR Signaling Pathway, Neurotrophin Signaling Pathway

Application Notes Dot: Use at an assay dependent dilution. ELISA: Use at an assay dependent dilution. Neut: Use at an assay dependent dilution. RIA: Use at an assay dependent dilution. WB: Use at an assay dependent dilution. Predicted molecular weight: 18 kDa. RIA Characterization: The antiserum is characterized utilizing a second antibody-polyethylene glycol (PEG) RIA protocol, where 0.1 mL of a minimum 1/10000 dilution of antiserum has been found to bind at least 40% of 100 picograms of iodinated recombinant human bFGF. The affinity constant (Ka) is determined by a Scatchard plot using this RIA system. Ka = minimum 1.0 x 109 L/mole.An minimum antibody concentration of 5 g/ml neutralizes 50% of the biological activity of 1 unit of bFGF using the mouse fibroblast cell line 3T3.Not tested in other applications.Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.
Recommended dilutions: ELISA 1:100-1:2000, Western Blot 1:100-1:2000, Radioimmunodiffusion
