NKAP is required for T cell maturation and the acquisition of functional competency
NKAP is a novel nuclear regulator of TNF (show TNF Antibodies)- and IL-1 (show IL1A Antibodies)-induced NF-kappaB (show NFKB1 Antibodies) activation
NKAP functions as a transcriptional repressor, acting on Notch (show NOTCH1 Antibodies) target genes, and is required for alphabeta T cell development.
we provide first evidence for the expression of NKAP in neurogenic cells of the adult mammalian brain
Transcriptional repressor NKAP is required for invariant natural killer T cell but not conventional T cell development.
Inducible deletion of NKAP in adult mice leads to lethality within 2 weeks, at which point hematopoiesis in the bone marrow has halted and hematopoietic stem cells have disappeared.
This gene encodes a protein that is involved in the activation of the ubiquitous transcription factor NF-kappaB. This protein is associated with the the histone deacetylase HDAC3 and with the Notch corepressor complex, and it thereby acts as a transcriptional repressor of Notch target genes. It is also required for alphabeta T cell development. A related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome X, while a related and intronless retrocopy, which has an intact CDS and may be functional, is located on chromosome 6.
