  1. Expression of hBD-1 (show DEFB1 Antibodies), hBD-2 (show DEFB4 Antibodies), hBD-3 (show DEFB103A Antibodies), and hBD-4 in healthy and chronic periodontitis gingiva.

  2. Beta-defensin 104 displays antimicrobial activity against S. carnosus, E. coli, S. cerevisiae, and P. aeruginosa (strong).

  3. TFF3 (show TFF3 Antibodies) activated the epithelial cells in culture to produce beta defensins 2 (hBD2 (show DEFB4 Antibodies)) and beta defensins 4

  4. Data suggest an activation of b-defensin (show DEF Antibodies)-4 induction, in human knee meniscus by the osteoarthritis inflammatory process as a result of an endogenous antibiotic defense mechanism accompanied by an intrinsic effort of tissue remodeling.

  5. Our results suggest that copy number variation of DEFB4 may not contribute to the pathogenesis of Behcet's disease.

  6. Analysis of the DEFB4 promoter region shows remarkably high density of sequence variabilities.

  7. The variations in the genes encoding human beta-defensin-1 (show DEFB1 Antibodies) and -2 may be associated with the risk of severe acute pancreatitis.

  8. Data show that beta-defensin (show DEFB1 Antibodies) cluster (DEFB4, DEFB103 (show DEFB103A Antibodies) and DEFB104) varied between 2 and 9 copies per genome, and high copy numbers (>4) were underrepresented among patients, suggesting that increased copy numbers could protect from CD.

Defensin, beta 104A (DEFB104A) Antigen Profile

Protein Summary

Defensins form a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides made by neutrophils. Defensins are short, processed peptide molecules that are classified by structure into three groups: alpha-defensins, beta-defensins and theta-defensins. All beta-defensin genes are densely clustered in four to five syntenic chromosomal regions. Chromosome 8p23 contains at least two copies of the duplicated beta-defensin cluster. This duplication results in two identical copies of defensin, beta 104, DEFB104A and DEFB104B, in head-to-head orientation. This gene, DEFB104A, represents the more centromeric copy.
