Cdx1 (show CDX1 Proteins) binds directly these responsive elements during embryogenesis, as part of the mechanism for (show CDX1 Proteins) the timely activation of HoxC8 expression.
Remodeling of Hox (show MSH2 Proteins) regulatory elements in different species has played a significant role in generating morphological diversity.
Results show that HOXC8 is consistently downregulated in stem/progenitor cells of all breast molecular subtypes, thus representing a putative tumor suppressor candidate. Also, downregulated expression of HOXC8 is associated with DNA methylation (show HELLS Proteins) at the gene promoter and expression of miR196 family members. Taken together, study establishes HOXC8 as a suppressor of stemness and transformation in the mammary gland lineage.
Owing to the overexpression of Homeobox C8 (HOXC8), findings implied that HOXC8 is involved in the progression of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and could be a potential therapeutical approach of EOC.
High expression of HOXC8 is associated with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
HOXC8 knockdown led to inhibition of tumor cell proliferation and migration in vitro by inhibiting MMP-9 (show MMP9 Proteins) expression and tumor growth in vivo. The results strongly suggest that HOXC8 is involved in the tumorigenesis of osteosarcoma and might serve as a novel predictor for patients' outcome.
embigin (show EMB Proteins) is regulated by HOXC8 and its loss plays an important role in the progression of breast tumors
Ectopic expression of HoxC8 inhibits nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell growth in vitro and in vivo, modulates glycolysis and regulates the expression of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle-related genes.
Upregulated HOXC8 expression was associated with oxaliplatin resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma.
miR (show MLXIP Proteins)-196a was over-expressed in cervical cancer cells, while an absence of HOXC8 expression was observed.
HOXC8 promotes breast tumorigenesis by transcriptionally facilitating cadherin-11 expression.
HOXC8 can be used as a prognostic marker in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
In presence of these inducing agents, lipid accumulation as well as expression of HoxA1 (show HOXA1 Proteins), HoxA5 (show HOXA5 Proteins), HoxC4 (show HOXC4 Proteins) &HoxC8 markedly enhanced. Irrespective of presence or absence of T3, insulin (show INS Proteins) down regulates HoxA10 (show HOXA10 Proteins). T3 results in over expression of HoxA5 (show HOXA5 Proteins), HoxC4 (show HOXC4 Proteins) and HoxC8 genes, whereas insulin (show INS Proteins) up regulates expression of only HoxC8
Hoxc8 initiates an ectopic mammary program by regulating Fgf10 (show FGF10 Proteins) and Tbx3 (show TBX3 Proteins) expression and Wnt (show WNT2 Proteins)/beta-catenin (show CTNNB1 Proteins) signaling
Cdx1 (show CDX1 Proteins) regulation on HoxC8 expression and suggest the possibility that the temporal changes in Cdx (show CDX1 Proteins) activity levels during gastrulation, combined with differential DNA binding affinity, might play a role in the establishment of Hox (show MSH2 Proteins) sequential activation.
Hoxc8 downregulates Mgl1 (show LLGL1 Proteins) tumor suppressor gene expression and reduces its concomitant function on cell adhesion.
Data provide the basis for future studies in pathogenesis of cartilage defects in Hoxc8- and Hoxd4 (show HOXD4 Proteins)-transgenic mice.
Hoxc8, when over-expressed in C3H10T1/2 or C2C12 cells, suppressed basal Smad6 (show SMAD6 Proteins) promoter activity and its mRNA expression
Hoxc8 regulation is essential for osteoblast differentiation.
Pcna (show PCNA Proteins) is a direct downstream target of Hoxc8.
interaction with smad1 (show SMAD1 Proteins) stimulates bone development
remodeling of Hox (show MSH2 Proteins) regulatory elements in different species has played a significant role in generating morphological diversity
This gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes. The homeobox genes encode a highly conserved family of transcription factors that play an important role in morphogenesis in all multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters, HOXA, HOXB, HOXC and HOXD, which are located on different chromosomes and consist of 9 to 11 genes arranged in tandem. This gene is one of several homeobox HOXC genes located in a cluster on chromosome 12. The product of this gene may play a role in the regulation of cartilage differentiation. It could also be involved in chondrodysplasias or other cartilage disorders.
