- Background
- GCLM (Glutamate-cysteine ligase, modifier subunit), also known as gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase, is first rate limiting enzyme of glutathione synthesis. GCLM is heterodimer of a heavy catalytic subunit and a light regulatory subunit that is responsive to inflammation, phenolic antioxidants, heat shock, oxidants and cytokines. GCLM deficiency has been implicated in some forms of hemolytic anemia. Also, GCLM is a molecular target for amelioration of cisplatin restance in lung cancer.Synonyms: GCS light chain, Gamma-ECS regulatory subunit, Gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase regulatory subunit, Glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier subunit, Glutamate-cysteine ligase regulatory subunit
