Antigen Tumor Protein P53 (TP53)
Alternative Name p53 (TP53) (TP53 Antibody Abstract)
Background The p53 protein (tumor protein 53 or TP53) is a DNA-binding cell cycle-regulating transcription factor that governs cell division and the fine balance between cell death and cell survival (1). P53 plays a critical role in tumor suppression and hence it is often described as "the guardian of the genome", "the guardian angel gene", or the "master watchman." This also refers to its role in conserving stability by preventing genome mutation (2). Defects in p53 are linked to >50 % of human cancers, and restoring p53 function to these cancer cells can induce growth arrest and apoptosis (3). When p53 has been damaged, it can also lead to autoimmune disorders (4, 5).Synonyms: Cellular tumor antigen p53, NY-CO-13, Phosphoprotein p53, Tumor suppressor p53
Gene ID 7157
UniProt P04637
Pathways p53 Signaling, MAPK Signaling, PI3K-Akt Signaling, Apoptosis, AMPK Signaling, Chromatin Binding, ER-Nucleus Signaling, Positive Regulation of Endopeptidase Activity, Hepatitis C, Protein targeting to Nucleus, Autophagy
Application Notes ELISA. Immunoprecipiation: Use at 10 μg/mL of Lysate. Flow Cytometry. Radioimmunoassay. Immunohistochemistry on Frozen Sections: 1/100-1/250. Immunohistochemistry on Paraffin Sections: 2-4 μg/mL for 30 min at RT, staining offormalin/paraffin tissues REQUIRES boiling tissue sections in 10 mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0,for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 min. Western blot: 1/1000-1/2000.1 μg/mL was sufficient for detection of p53 in 10 μg of Rat brain lysate by colorimetricimmunoblot analysis using Goat anti-Mouse IgG: HRP as the secondary antibody.
