|Specificity||This antibody reacts with Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Absoprtion with 10-100 μg CGRP per ml diluted antiserum abolishes the staining while Calcitonin does not. It does not cross-react with Amylin (IAPP).|
|Immunogen||Synthetic Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (Peninsula), conjugated to BSA.|

|Alternative Name||CGRP / CALCA (CALCA Antibody Abstract)|
|Background||The CGRP-sequence was predicted from the corresponding mRNA. CGRP is present in the C-cells of the thyroid and in nerves, in both brain and periphery, particularly within the sensory system. CGRP is a potent vasodilator, probably involved in neurogenic inflammation. Medullary carcinomas of the thyroid contain large amounts of CGRP.Synonyms: Alpha-type CGRP, CALC1, CGRP-I, Calcitonin gene-related peptide I|
|Pathways||Hormone Activity, cAMP Metabolic Process, Myometrial Relaxation and Contraction, Regulation of G-Protein Coupled Receptor Protein Signaling, Skeletal Muscle Fiber Development, Feeding Behaviour|

Immunohistochemistry on Paraffin Embedded or Frozen Tissue Sections. Immunofluorescence Microscopy: Dilute 1/800-1/1200 Using FITC with overnightincubation at 2-8 °C. Recommended Positive Control: frozen sections of rat colon.
Other applications not tested.
Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
