Background |
The Low-Affinity Nerve Growth Factor Receptor(also called the NGFR or p75 neurotrophin receptor) is one of the two receptor types for the neurotrophins, a family of protein growth factors that stimulate neuronal cells to survive and differentiate. It is mapped to 17q21.33. Overexpression of NGFR was also found to activate the SM pathway. NGFR is a receptor for rabies virus, and it is also a coreceptor for the NOGO receptor for MAG signaling. This gene is a signaling partner for EPHAs and the EPHA/NGFR complex reverse signals can mediate axon repulsion required for guidance and mapping. NGFR is involved in activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. It has been shown to interact with PRKACB, FSCN1, TRAF4, Nerve growth factor, TRAF2, NDN, NGFRAP1 and MAGEH1.
