- Background
- Quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase, also known as QPRT, is a major enzyme in the catabolism of quinolinate. It is an intermediate in the tryptophannicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) pathway, leading to the production of nicotinic acid, carbon dioxide and pyrophosphate. Elevation of QPRT levels in the brain has been linked to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, and Huntington's disease. Recombinant human QPRT protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: Nicotinate nucleotide pyrophosphorylase carboxylating, Quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase , QPRTase, QAPRTase. NCBI no.: NP_055113
