    Background
RAN, member RAS oncogene family, also known as RAN, is a small GTPase of the Ras superfamily that controls nucleocytoplasmic transport. It is involved in the directionality of the process that is regulated by GTP hydrolysis. Ran shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Unlike many other regulatory GTPases, Ran is not posttranslationally modified so that it can be targeted to the subcellular compartment where it acts. Rather, RanGTP has been thought to be localized by the differential localization of Ran regulators. Recombinant human RAN, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
