  1. The predominant AKT (show AKT1 Proteins) isoform in the central nervous system, AKT3, induces much more robust axon regeneration than AKT1 (show AKT1 Proteins) and that activation of mTORC1 and inhibition of GSK3beta are two critical parallel pathways for AKT (show AKT1 Proteins)-induced axon regeneration.

  2. Downregulation of AKT3 increases migration and metastasis in triple negative breast cancer cells by upregulating S100A4 (show S100A4 Proteins).

  3. In viable Akt (show AKT1 Proteins) three-isoforms conditional knockout mice, total Akt (show AKT1 Proteins) levels were reduced in the adult brain. They had increased levels of phosphorylated tau, GSK3alpha and PKA substrates. No significant changes in p-tau levels were found in Akt3-/-)mice.

  4. untreated Akt1 (show AKT1 Proteins) and Akt2 (show AKT2 Proteins)/Akt3 double knockout mice display significant hearing loss, indicating a role for these isoforms in normal hearing.

  5. MicroRNA-207 enhances radiation-induced apoptosis by targeting Akt3 in cochlea hair cells.

  6. Blocking Akt1 (show AKT1 Proteins) or Akt3 but not Akt2 (show AKT2 Proteins) expression prohibits cell proliferation and reprogramming.

  7. Mechanistic investigations uncovered opposing functions for different Akt (show AKT1 Proteins) isoforms in this regulation, where Akt1 (show AKT1 Proteins) promotes and Akt3 inhibits vascular tumor growth.

  8. MiR (show MLXIP Proteins)-29 modulates growth and promotes differentiation of skeletal muscle through the post-transcriptional downregulation of Akt3.

  9. AKT3 controls mitochondrial biogenesis and autophagy via regulation of the major nuclear export protein CRM-1.

  2. Bioinformatics analysis further revealed cyclin D2 (CCND2 (show CCND2 Proteins)) and AKT3, putative tumor promoters, as potential targets of miR610. Data from reporter assays showed that miR610 directly binds to the 3'untranslated

  3. Data show that elevated expression of DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs (show PRKDC Proteins)), Akt3 protein, and tumor suppressor protein p53 (p53 (show TP53 Proteins)) in ovarian serous adenocarcinoma tissues are an indication of more advanced disease and worse prognosis.

  4. Perhaps Bcl-2 (show BCL2 Proteins) down-regulation and Akt-3 up-regulation can be linked with survival signals in A549 cell line. We can conclude that Bcl-2 (show BCL2 Proteins) and Akt-3 might be therapeutic targets to inhibit cell proliferation in NSCLC.

  6. AKT3 has a role in prostate cancer proliferation through regulation of Akt, B-Raf, and TSC1/TSC2

  7. mirn424 has a role in inhibiting Akt3/E2F3 axis and tumor growth in hepatocellular carcinoma

  8. Akt1 (show AKT1 Proteins) and Akt2 (show AKT2 Proteins) activated both SREBP-1 (show SREBF1 Proteins) and SREBP-2 (show SREBF2 Proteins), whereas Akt3 upregulated SREBP-1 (show SREBF1 Proteins) to enhance hepatitis C virus translation.

  9. Flot-2 (show FLOT2 Proteins) exerts a pro-neoplastic role in NPC (show NPC1 Proteins) and is involved in tumor progression and metastasis. Moreover, Flot-2 (show FLOT2 Proteins) exerts its role through NF-kappaB (show NFKB1 Proteins) and PI3K (show PIK3CA Proteins)/Akt3 signaling.

AKT3 Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the AKT, also called PKB, serine/threonine protein kinase family. AKT kinases are known to be regulators of cell signaling in response to insulin and growth factors. They are involved in a wide variety of biological processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, tumorigenesis, as well as glycogen synthesis and glucose uptake. This kinase has been shown to be stimulated by platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), insulin, and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1). Alternatively splice transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described.
