  1. Short 5'UTR mRNAs are enriched with TISU (translation initiator of short 5'UTR), a 12-nucleotide element directing efficient scanning-independent translation. This study demonstrate that TISU is particularly dependent on eukaryotic initiation factor (show EIF4G1 Proteins) 1A (eIF1A (show EIF1AX Proteins)) which interacts with both RPS3 (show RPS3 Proteins) and RPS10e.

  2. These results are consistent with a model in which the Nef protein by binding to two components of the 40S small ribosomal subunit, RPS10 and 18S rRNA, and to a lesser extent to tRNAs, could lead to decreased protein synthesis.

  3. A novel mutation of ribosomal protein S10 gene in a Japanese patient with diamond-Blackfan anemia.

  4. Methylation of ribosomal protein S10 by protein-arginine methyltransferase 5 (show PRMT5 Proteins) regulates ribosome biogenesis.

  5. Mutations in the RPS10 and RPS26 (show RPS26 Proteins) genes in DBA (show RPS19 Proteins) patients affect the function of the proteins in rRNA processing.

RPS10 Protein Profile

Protein Summary

Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit. The protein belongs to the S10E family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm. Variable expression of this gene in colorectal cancers compared to adjacent normal tissues has been observed, although no correlation between the level of expression and the severity of the disease has been found. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene dispersed through the genome. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein. Naturally occurring read-through transcription occurs between this locus and the neighboring locus NUDT3 (nudix (nucleoside diphosphate linked moiety X)-type motif 3).
