  1. In vivo, osmotic stress up-regulates the SCTR (show SCTR Proteins) gene in the kidney cortex and medulla of wild-type mice, but does not do so in NFAT5(+/-) mice.

  2. TonEBP suppresses adipogenesis and insulin (show INS Proteins) sensitivity by blocking epigenetic transition of PPARgamma2 (show PPARG Proteins)

  3. TonEBP is a critical regulator of neuroinflammation and blood-brain barrier leakage in kainic acid-induced seizures.

  5. these data support a novel function of the XO-NFAT5 axis in macrophage activation and TLR-induced arthritis

  6. Suggest that biomechanical stretch is sufficient to activate NFAT5 both in native and cultured VSMCs where it regulates the expression of tenascin-C (show TNC Proteins).

  7. Together, these results clearly demonstrated that hyperglycemia-induced TonEBP plays a crucial role in increasing aldose reductase (show AKR1B1 Proteins) and PKCdelta (show PKCd Proteins) levels and leading to apoptotic death.

  8. Data indicate that in transgenic mice overexpressing Sfmbt2 10th intron-hosted miR (show MLXIP Proteins)-466a-3p, significant down-regulation of Nfat5 and many other osmoregulation-related genes was observed in both the renal cortex and medulla.

  9. NFAT5 is part of a protective mechanism that limits renal damage induced by IRI.

  10. NFAT5 induction by the pre-T-cell receptor (show PTCRA Proteins) serves as a selective survival signal in T-lymphocyte development.

  1. Our data demonstrates the involvement of TonEBP in the mechanisms responsible for osmoadaptation to hyperosmolar stress in retinal pigment epithelium cells.

  2. Additionally, in peritoneal dialysis the cells of the peritoneal cavity are repeatedly exposed to a rise and fall in osmotic concentrations. Here we review the current information about NFAT5 in uremic patients and patients on peritoneal dialysis.

  3. Results suggest that the NFAT5 gene, which is upregulated a few hours after cocaine exposure, may be involved in the genetic predisposition to cocaine dependence.

  4. NFAT5 pathway activation might have a relevant role in inflammatory breast cancer pathogenesis

  5. Real-time PCR and Western blot analysis confirmed up-regulation of NFAT5 mRNA and NFAT5 nuclear content in human preeclamptic placentas

  6. These results indicate that NFAT5 plays important roles in proliferation and migration of human lung adenocarcinoma cells through regulating AQP5 (show AQP5 Proteins) expression, providing a new therapeutic option for lung adenocarcinoma therapy.

  7. The hyperosmotic induction of AQP5 (show AQP5 Proteins) and VEGF (show VEGFA Proteins) in retinal pigment epithelial cells was in part dependent on activation of NFAT5.

  8. Upregulation of NFAT5 in peritoneal dialysis patients is associated with NFkappaB induction, potentially resulting in the recruitment of macrophages

  9. NFAT5 is directly targeted by miR (show MLXIP Proteins)-568, which is in turn suppressed by the long non-coding RNA, Hotair.

  10. NFAT5 participates in the regulation of intestinal homeostasis via the suppression of mTORC1/Notch (show NOTCH1 Proteins) signaling pathway.

NFAT5 Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The product of this gene is a member of the nuclear factors of activated T cells family of transcription factors. Proteins belonging to this family play a central role in inducible gene transcription during the immune response. This protein regulates gene expression induced by osmotic stress in mammalian cells. Unlike monomeric members of this protein family, this protein exists as a homodimer and forms stable dimers with DNA elements. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
