  1. The findings of this study do not confirm previous studies showing an evident association between mild cADR from carbamazepine and HLA-A*31:01.

  2. The HLA-B*35 antigen contributes to endoplasmic reticulum stress and inflammation in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis patients.

  3. Changes in key regulators of the Wnt pathway as well as Indian hedgehog, a molecule regulating endochondral ossification, are found in HLA-B27 carriers, independent if they were healthy or affected by uveitis or spondyloarthritis.

  4. The functional IL-6 (show IL6 Proteins) polymorphism rs1800795 is associated with intermediate uveitis but not with HLAB27 acute anterior uveitis.

  5. Our data suggest that the presence of HLA-B15 favours the development of isolated/combined peripheral rather than isolated axSpA, while HLA-B27 promotes an isolated/combined axial disease and excludes a peripheral pattern

  6. HLA-B13:02, HLA-B38:02, HLA-B44:03, and HLA-B56:01 alleles were significantly increased in autistic subjects. HLA-B18:02 and HLA-B46:12 alleles were negatively associated with autism when compared to normal controls.

  7. we found a significant association between carbimazole/methimazole-induced agranulocytosis and HLA-B*38:02:01

  8. KIR-3DL2 binding to HLA-B27 licenses Th17 cell differentiation in spondyloarthritis.

  9. four amino-acid positions of HLA-B and -C account for most of the associations between ankylosing spondylitis and MHC in the Korean population

  10. Results show a significant relation between the presence of HLA-B27 and ankylosing spondylitis in Moroccan population.

HLA-B Protein Profile

Protein Summary

HLA-B belongs to the HLA class I heavy chain paralogues. This class I molecule is a heterodimer consisting of a heavy chain and a light chain (beta-2 microglobulin). The heavy chain is anchored in the membrane. Class I molecules play a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from the endoplasmic reticulum lumen. They are expressed in nearly all cells. The heavy chain is approximately 45 kDa and its gene contains 8 exons. Exon 1 encodes the leader peptide, exon 2 and 3 encode the alpha1 and alpha2 domains, which both bind the peptide, exon 4 encodes the alpha3 domain, exon 5 encodes the transmembrane region and exons 6 and 7 encode the cytoplasmic tail. Polymorphisms within exon 2 and exon 3 are responsible for the peptide binding specificity of each class one molecule. Typing for these polymorphisms is routinely done for bone marrow and kidney transplantation. Hundreds of HLA-B alleles have been described.
