The protein encoded by AGPAT3 is an acyltransferase that converts lysophosphatidic acid into phosphatidic acid, which is the second step in the de novo phospholipid biosynthetic pathway. Additionally we are shipping 1-Acylglycerol-3-Phosphate O-Acyltransferase 3 Antibodies (49) and 1-Acylglycerol-3-Phosphate O-Acyltransferase 3 Proteins (8) and many more products for this protein.

enzymatic properties, tissue distribution, and subcellular localization of human AGPAT3 and AGPAT5
The data is consistent with a structural arrangement in which motif I is located in the cytoplasm and motif II is in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi lumen, suggesting a different model for AGPAT3/LPAAT3's enzymatic mechanism.
Of the two well conserved acyltransferase motifs, NHX(4)D is present in AGPAT8, whereas arginine in the EGTR motif is substituted by aspartate.
Results report the identification of an integral membrane lysophosphatidic acid-specific acyltransferase, LPAAT3, which regulates Golgi membrane tubule formation, trafficking, and structure by altering phospholipids and lysophospholipids.
It identified lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (LPAAT)3 as an enzyme that was upregulated in myoblasts during in vitro differentiation and selectively incorporated DHA intophosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine.
Data suggest that LPAAT3 is required for producing docosahexaenoic acid- (DHA)-containing phospholipids in various tissues, such as the testes and retina; LPAAT3-knockout mice exhibit severe male infertility with abnormal sperm morphology; lack of LPAAT3 causes drastic reduction of DHA-containing phospholipids in spermatids with excess cytoplasm around the sperm head.
Data suggest that PL-DHA (docosahexaenoic acid-containing phospholipids) contribute to visual function by maintaining disc shape in photoreceptor cells; PL-DHA disappears from outer segment in LPAAT3-knockout mice; LPAAT3-knockout mice exhibit abnormalities in retinal layers, disordered disc morphology in photoreceptor cells, and impaired visual function.
The induction of LPAAT3 during germ cell development critically contributes to the accumulation of PUFAs in testicular phospholipids, thereby possibly affecting sperm cell production.
mAGPAT 1, 2, and 3 mRNA levels increased rapidly in mouse skin after acute permeability barrier disruption
The protein encoded by this gene is an acyltransferase that converts lysophosphatidic acid into phosphatidic acid, which is the second step in the de novo phospholipid biosynthetic pathway. The encoded protein may be an integral membrane protein. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
