Here the authors have characterized SorCS1, SorCS2 and SorCS3 using biochemical methods and electron microscopy. They found that their purified extracellular domains co-exist in stable dimeric and monomeric populations.
Sortilin-related receptor CNS expressed 2 (SorCS2) is one of the vacuolar protein sorting 10 family proteins which may be involved in the disease process of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
structural analysis of binding of NGF, proNGF, and proBDNF to SorCS2
Results indicate that hearing loss and hair bundle defects are associated with SorCS2 (Sortilin-related VPS-10 domain containing protein) disruption.
SorCS2 is expressed in mesodermally derived tissues such as striated muscle, adipose tissue, ossifying bone and connective tissue.
SorCS3 and the homologous sorCS1 and sorCS2 genes were expressed in a combinatorial mostly non-overlapping pattern in the developing and mature central nervous system; activity-dependent induction of sorCS3 did not require protein synthesis
This gene encodes one family member of vacuolar protein sorting 10 (VPS10) domain-containing receptor proteins. The VPS10 domain name comes from the yeast carboxypeptidase Y sorting receptor Vps10 protein. Members of this gene family are large with many exons but the CDS lengths are usually less than 3700 nt. Very large introns typically separate the exons encoding the VPS10 domain\; the remaining exons are separated by much smaller-sized introns. These genes are strongly expressed in the central nervous system.
